Description
Hotel Refugio Bartola is truly a unique hotel at a unique place. Refugio Bartola is the name of a natural reserve that borders the huge Indio Maíz Biological Reserve. These two reserves are separated by a river called Bartola, and the flora and fauna at both sides of the river is spectacular. Hotel Refugio Bartola is located on the corner of the Bartola reserve, set on the banks of the impressive San Juan River.
In addition to providing a superb view of the river and the surrounding forest, the hotel also offers simple but very comfortable cabins. The spacious, well-maintained rooms make staying in this remote location a delight. The hotel provides a great place for visits to the Bartola reserve or to the Indio Maíz Biological Reserve. Animal or plant studies can also be done from here, and there have been scientific visitors before who studied the spectacular wildlife around the hotel.
The hotel also serves delicious food, and the price already includes the three meals. Electricity is available from solar panels, and laundry service is also available. A large rancho can be used for events for up to 50 people.
Hotel Refugio Bartola is located 6 kilometers downstream from the historical town of El Castillo. It can be reached by public or private boat. Be sure to make reservations ahead.

Wow ! what a great surprise. This place is wonderful, The food cooked on a wood stove is some of the best I have ever had anywhere. Super clean and great service. If you go to Nicaragua this is an experience not to miss. The ladies that run Bartola are wonderful and have great stories about Nicaragua 's recent history. Waking up to the sound of Howeler Monkeys is something I will remember.
