| Description | The La Merced church is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of two streets: the Calle Real and the Avenida 14 de September. This church was built in a smaller version in 1534. Since that year, many additions have been made to enlarge and improve the church. In 1853 the La Merced church was considered one of the most beautiful buildings of Granada. One year later the big tower of the church was destroyed, and in 1862 it was reconstructed again. Until the 1950s changes have been made to improve the building. The church nowadays houses three naves and it is guarded by the imposing tower and other colonial buildings. The front of the La Merced church has been constructed using a baroque style. |
